# Product Planning

Fixed-price product planning, with my coaching or done by me: from the idea in your head to a requirements document (PRD) and a roadmap your AI tools or developers can build from. From €1,800.

> “What exactly should we build, and in what order?”

You know what you want to build, but it’s still in your head. You need it clear enough for AI tools or developers to build it right.

## Who it’s for

You’re a good fit if you…

- know your market and your users but haven’t built software before
- are about to build with AI tools, hire developers, or bring in an agency
- get quotes and estimates for your product that are worlds apart

Probably not a fit if you…

- want someone to build it: [Hiring Your First Developers](https://chrishennigfeld.com/build/hiring-first-developers) helps you find the right people
- need polished visual designs: I define the screens and user flows with simple sketches and can help you [find a designer](https://chrishennigfeld.com/build/hiring-first-developers)

## What you get

- Conversations with you and your users or stakeholders
- A requirements document (PRD) agreed before anyone builds
- A roadmap to the first release, in an order that makes sense
- A handover call with your developers once they’re on board

## How it works

Two to eight weeks, from the discovery call to the finished plan.

1. **Discovery call** (Free): We talk about your idea, who it’s for, and how far along you are.
2. **Fixed quote** (Within two working days): A fixed price and a timeline, based on the tier and the size of the product.
3. **Working sessions and writing** (Two to eight weeks): We work through goals, users, and requirements in a series of calls. Depending on the tier, you write and I review, or I write and you review.
4. **Sign-off and handover** (On completion): We agree on the final version. Once your developers are on board, I walk them through it.

## Fixed price

Fixed quote after the discovery call.

### Tiers

- **Coached:** From €1,800, from 2 weeks. We work out what your users need and what goes into the first release. You write the plan; I review it for gaps, explain what each choice costs to build, and answer questions in between.
- **PRD and roadmap:** From €5,000, from 3 weeks. We work through your goals, users, and requirements together. Then I plan and write the PRD and the roadmap to the first release, with an eye on what comes after it.
- **Full specification:** From €8,000, from 4 weeks. The PRD plus detailed user stories with acceptance criteria: every feature broken into small pieces, each with a checklist for when it’s done.

## Example

Real client work. Outside the case studies, client names are left out for confidentiality.

### Replacing legacy software without copying its flaws (Environmental nonprofit, UK, 2026)

An environmental nonprofit that assesses hundreds of large companies and financial institutions each year was replacing the legacy software their assessment work runs on. They wanted a system that made the work simpler for everyone involved, from their own assessors to the companies being assessed, and their in-house developers were ready to build it. What they needed first was a clear definition of what the new system had to do. Over eight weeks I talked to the people who would use it and went through the existing software with them: which parts they relied on, which nobody used, and which didn’t fit how they actually work. From there we worked out how they wanted their day-to-day work supported, and I wrote the product requirements document: goals, users, and requirements grouped by area of work. Then I wrote out all 209 user stories in the team’s project tool, each with acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements such as data volumes and an audit trail of who changed what.

The requirements document was approved, and the in-house team took it from there to design and build the new system.

> “It was a pleasure to work with Chris: he asked insightful questions from the start, communicated clearly and concisely, and generated a detailed product requirements document that got to the heart of what we really needed from the platform.”
> — Kiera Jones, Data Systems Lead, Global Canopy

## What it isn’t

- Not a technical design. I recommend the core technologies so you know what expertise to hire for. How the product is built inside is decided with your developers once they’re on board.
- Not visual design. You get the screens and user flows as simple sketches, but no polished designs.

## Common questions

### What’s a PRD?

A product requirements document: what the product should do, for whom, and why, written so AI tools or developers can build from it. It becomes the reference everyone checks when a question comes up, so decisions don’t get made twice.

### Can’t I just write the requirements with AI?

You can, and in the Coached tier you will, with my help. AI is good at turning your thoughts into structure. What it rarely does is push back: ask about the user you forgot, the case nobody thought of, or whether customers will pay for what you’re planning. That’s where a second, experienced person helps.

### What happens after the plan is done?

You have something your AI tools or developers can build from. I’m happy to help you [set up AI tools](https://chrishennigfeld.com/build#ai-for-building), [find developers](https://chrishennigfeld.com/build/hiring-first-developers), or stay on as [ongoing support](https://chrishennigfeld.com/build#ongoing) while you build. Half the planning fee counts toward ongoing support if you start within two months.
